The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that breast cancer is the most common cancer in American women, except for skin cancers. Breast cancer became the most common cancer globally as of 2021, accounting for 12% of all new annual cancer cases worldwide, according to the World Health Organization 

 

The American Cancer Society estimates that in 2021, about 281,550 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women and 43,600 women will die from breast cancer. The American Cancer Society has also found that in recent years, incidence rates of breast cancer have increased by 0.5% per year.  

 

The good news is that as of January 2021, there are more than 3.8 million breast cancer survivors in the United States according to the breast cancer research foundation. This includes women still being treated and those who have completed treatment.
